چکیده

Preview You learned in the Chapter 1 that all organic molecules have carbon skeletons. These carbon skeletons show great diversity in the ways that C atoms bond to each other, and in their three-dimensional shapes. Alkanes and cycloalkanes consist entirely of carbon skeletons bonded to H atoms since they have no functional groups. As a result, they serve as a basis for understanding the structures of all other organic molecules. This chapter describes the skeleltal isomerism of alkanes and cycloalkanes, their three-dimensional conformations, and their systematic nomenclature that is the basis for the names of all other organic compounds.

Catalytic ring expansion, contraction, and metathesis-polymerization of cycloalkanes.

Tandem dehydrogenation-olefin-metathesis catalyst systems, comprising a pincer-ligated iridium-based alkane dehydrogenation catalyst and a molybdenum-based olefin-metathesis catalyst, are reported to effect the metathesis-cyclooligomerization of cyclooctane and cyclodecane to give cycloalkanes with various carbon numbers, predominantly multiples of the substrate carbon number, and polymers.

Conformations of Alkanes and Cycloalkanes

Hydrogen peroxide is formed in the cells of plants and animals but is toxic to them. Consequently, living systems have developed mechanisms to rid themselves of hydrogen peroxide, usually by enzyme-catalyzed reduction to water. An understanding of how reactions take place, be they reactions in living systems or reactions in test tubes, begins with a thorough knowledge of the structure of the re...

Biotransformation of various alkanes using the Escherichia coli expressing an alkane hydroxylase system from Gordonia sp. TF6.

Biotransformation using alkane-oxidizing bacteria or their alkane hydroxylase (AH) systems have been little studied at the molecular level. We have cloned and sequenced genes from Gordonia sp. TF6 encoding an AH system, alkB2 (alkane 1-monooxygenase), rubA3 (rubredoxin), rubA4 (rubredoxin), and rubB (rubredoxin reductase). When expressed in Escherichia coli, these genes allowed the construction...

Atom–bond connectivity and the energetic of branched alkanes

E-mail address: [email protected] Here we introduce a new topological approach which provides a good model for the stability of linear and branched alkanes as well as the strain energy of cycloalkanes. We find that the ratio of 1,3-interactions with respect to the total number of 1,2-, ...

Quantitative relationships for the prediction of the vapor pressure of some hydrocarbons from the van der Waals molecular surface

A quantitative structure–property relationship (QSPR) modeling of vapor pressure at 298.15 K, expressed as log (VP / Pa) was performed for a series of 84 hydrocarbons (63 alkanes and 21 cycloalkanes) using the van der Waals (vdW) surface area, SW / Å, calculated by the Monte Carlo method, as the molecular descriptor. The QSPR model developed from the subset of 63 alkanes (C1–C16), deemed as the...
